Kilnhurst Primary School which is part of the White Woods Academy Trust has been significantly affected by last weeks flooding.
All of the school’s classrooms have been damaged with water reaching knee height. The Trust has worked collaboratively with Aston Community Education Trust (ACET) and Rotherham Council to ensure that all pupils affected by the flooding at Kilnhurst Primary School can be accommodated and able to attend either Brookfield Academy or Swinton Fitzwilliam Primary School until such time as Kilnhurst Primary School is available to reoccupy.
We were delighted that all children were back in education by Wednesday 13th November
The Trust’s loss adjusters visited the site last Thursday and work to begin clearing the site will begin imminently. Once work has begun we will be able to give a more informed completion date but are planning for the school to be ready to reoccupy by Easter. This, however, is only an indicative timescale as it’ll be determined by how quickly we are able to dry out the school which will, in turn, be affected by weather conditions moving forward.
The school have received fantastic support from parents, the local community, neighbouring schools and Rotherham Council for which we are hugely grateful.
Kilnhurst has a passionate and committed staff team, led by Headteacher Ryan Cousins and an amazing group of parents and children and I know they will continue to work together and support each other during this challenging time.
